Camp Katy FAQs
About Camp Katy
When did Camp Katy open?
We began our summer camp program in June of 2005.
How many students do you have per instructor?
We have a maximum of 6 students per instructor.
What is different about Camp Katy over other technology camps?
Camp Katy is family owned and operated. We offer the same or better courses with an instructor led, not web based, environment. All of our instructors are industry experts meaning that they are not just taught the curriculum in a training session. All of our campers receive an internet safety class during their session. We like that we are a smaller family-oriented camp and we are right here in Katy!
How can I contact Camp Katy?
You may email us at info@campkaty.com, call us at (281) 391-0007, or drop by our Camp head quarters inside Your Local Computer Store at 402 West Grand Parkway S. Katy, TX 77494. This is also our mailing address.
What To Expect At Camp Katy
What do I eat at camp?
There are two options for lunch. Campers may bring their lunch or purchase from our snack bar. Parents can setup a food account for their camper on their first day of camp. We offer several lunch choices for $5. We also have breakfast options. A full menu will be made available to you before camp begins.
What is a typical day like at camp?
FUN OF COURSE! Our classes are held from 9am to 4pm with an hour lunch break. We have most of our instruction in the morning and do labs in the afternoon. Camp is open from 7am to 6pm. If campers arrive early or stay after class, they will have time to play games, watch movies or hang out with their new friends.
Can I stay with my camper during class?
For safety reasons, no adults besides our staff are allowed to participate in our summer classes. We do offer adult classes during the year if you want to learn too!
Registration FAQs
When does registration start?
Registration begins February 1, 2010 for the Summer 2010 session
How far in advance do I have to register to guarantee a spot in a particular course?
Camp Katy reserves space on a first come first serve basis. You can reserve a spot by completing the registration form and paying at least the deposit for each week you are enrolling. We always recommend you register as soon as possible. You will receive a confirmation by phone or email within 24 hours of receiving your registration and payment.
Can I put down a desposit instead of paying it all at once?
Absolutely. There is a space on the registration form to indicate that you wish to make a deposit for each camper and week you are registering for. Please note that the remainding balance of your tuition for all campers (and camp weeks) is due ONE week prior to your camp start date or your spot may be given to another camper. Week 5's Movie Making course = 2 Weeks. Deposits are non-refundable.
What is the Early Bird discount?
If you register and pay in full before March 31, 2010 you receive a $50 discount per family. It will deducted at the time of payment.
Are there discounts for siblings?
There is a $25 discount for each child after the first. Please indicate when you register that you are eligible for the sibling discount and the name of the sibling.
Are there any other discounts available for tuition?
Yes! We offer a multi-week discount for campers. You will recieve an additional 5% off of each class you register for. Discount will be applied at the time of payment. Multi-week discount can not be applied to lab weeks.
How can I find out if there is still room available in one of your courses?
We will try to keep the website current with registration status for each course. Check the schedule or registration pages. In addition, we will contact you with 24 hours of submitting your registration and confirm your placement.
Is tax included in my tuition?
Tax is not included. The current Harris County sales tax rate is 8.25%. This tax will be added to your total tuition 1 time and will not apply to each individual deposit payment.
My tuition is paid (or I am in the middle of paying off my tuition) and my child has fallen ill and cannot make his/her camp week. Can I get a refund?
Yes, you can request a refund of your tuition, minus the non-refundable 'deposit' of $100/week for academic courses, and $50 per week for non-academic courses, up until 1 week prior to your scheduled camp date. The last possible opportunity to get any refund is one week prior to the class. This allows us to contact any families on the waiting list and get them enrolled before camp starts.
Course FAQs
Can I sign up for multiple weeks of the same course?
Yes. Our curriculum is customized to each camper's skill and knowledge level. Each additional week you enroll for the same course will build on your skills. Many of our students choose this option. Also check out our new Lab Week option.
What is a Lab Week?
New this year! Camp Katy is now offering Lab Weeks for specified courses. This allows the camper access to the programs and tools they had in class to continue on with their projects. While this is not an instructional course, the camper will be part of camp social activities and there will be designated question and answer times for additional help with the course. This week can be taken any time after the initial session at a discounted rate. Lab weeks are not available for the following classes: MMO Creator, Dungeons & Dragons 101, WoW Insider, Movie Making, Computer Building, Games! Games! Games!
What is a Mini Camp Add-on?
This year students who are enrolled in the Games! Games! Games! Camp will have the option to add Mini Camps to their week at Camp Katy. Mini Camps are an additional $60 per week and are an excellent way to incorporate an additional educational element to their gaming agenda. Current available Mini Camps can be found on our courses page.

Your camper can also participate in mini camps and weekly field trips. See the schedule and course pages for more info.
